In fulfilling its mission International Bone & Mineral Society has dedicated itself to the nurturing of Special Interest Groups in the Bone Field. The groups have been diverse and IBMS has taken a flexible approach in working with each one.
- The Cancer and Bone Society (CABS) started in 1997 as a scientific meeting group focused on Cancer Induced Bone Disease. Since then, IBMS has supported CABS meetings and provided administrative services throughout its organizational phase. CABS is now an independent 501(c)(3) corporation with a separate Board of Directors, yet it still maintains its close relationship with IBMS. IBMS continues to support CABS by providing management services, administrative support and by collaborating on scientific meetings.
- Comparative Endocrinology Group (CE) IBMS has supported CE meetings at IBMS annual meetings for many years. In 2007 IBMS officially took over the management of CE finances to help provide consistency and ease of administration for the group.
- International Conference on Children’s Bone Health (ICCBH) IBMS has supported the ICCBH for several years by providing grant and promotional support. In addition, IBMS has collaborated closely with ICCBH to help it realize economies of scale on its international scientific meeting in Montreal in 2007.
