Meeting Highlights
Sun Valley Workshop: Musculoskeletal Biology The 42nd International Sun Valley Workshop brought together Young Investigators with Senior Researchers in an atmosphere that allowed for collaboration. A unique quality of this workshop is the relaxed environment. Not only are registrants given the opportunity to attend an amazing Scientific Program, coordinated by David Burr, Ph.D., and members of the Scientific Advisory Committee, but the meeting's location allows for registrants to enjoy the outdoors, through several social activitites planned within the workshop. Experience overviews from Award winners and Travel Grant Winners: “As a musculoskeletal radiologist who does translational imaging research, I found the Sun Valley Workshop to be eye-opening. The talks were extremely well-organized, and I was impressed by the depth and breadth of musculoskeletal tissue research (molecular, cellular, tissue engineering, etc.). The best part about the conference was being able to interact with senior investigators, both during the mentor lunch and informally at the social events. I highly recommend the Sun Valley Workshop for any young investigator involved in musculoskeletal tissue research.” – Gregory Chang, Harold M. Frost Award winner “Besides the breathtaking scenery, I truly enjoyed the format of the Sun Valley Workshop. As a young investigator, larger meetings can be very intimidating, but the informal atmosphere at Sun Valley made it easier to ask questions, network and learn. And even though it was a small meeting, there was no lack of cutting-edge science, or investigators at the top of their respective fields. I had a wonderful time and I plan to attend this meeting in the future.” – Monique Bethel, Under-Represented Minority Travel Grant Winner “I was thrilled to be able to attend the Sun Valley Workshop, and enjoyed my experience throughout the meeting. I really appreciated the intimate nature of the workshop, as it provided me the opportunity to meet and discuss my research with senior researchers without the intimidation that I have felt at the other conferences I have attended. The emphasis placed on discussing each topic during the sessions was also a refreshing change from simply running from talk to talk, and made me feel like a participant rather than merely an observer, while at the same time allowing me the opportunity think about how each talk related to my own research. I especially enjoyed the mentor lunch, which provided me the opportunity to receive invaluable advice on the next steps in my career.” – Gregory Miller, Alice L. Jee Award winner
